Formatting

All services will be completed using either Google Docs or Word Track Changes. Please use standard formatting when sending materials: 1 inch margins, double spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font.

Queries should be single spaced and one page in length, and synopsis can be up to two double-spaced pages in length. I will fix any formatting issues, though it may impact end pricing.

Genres

While I specialize in YA and Adult fantasy (and most subcategories), I offer services for any genre of fiction in YA and Adult.

At this time, I am not able to offer manuscript services for any age genre up and through MG. I do not offer any services for non-fiction or non-fiction proposals.

Payment

All payments will be through PayPal. Any project $400 and under will need to be paid in full when you send your materials. For all other projects, half the fee will be due at the time of scheduling, and the other half must be paid before I send you my notes.

Payment plans are available on a case-by-case basis.

Discounts are available for authors from marginalized communities and for authors with great financial need. Please ask me for details!

Accommodations

I strive to to make my services accessible to everyone, and will happily

Testimonials

"Virginia is the first person I go to for advice on my manuscripts, at any stage. She has an incredible grasp of character and plot. Sometimes I think she understands my characters better than I do! She is honest, positive, knowledgeable, intuitive, and detail-oriented, which are the exact traits everyone needs in an editor. Whether you’re writing for adults or kidlit, Virginia can help you tighten your plot, refine your character motivations, nail your ending, and make sure your prose is squeaky clean. I couldn’t have landed my agent or debut book deal without her."

"Virginia is an incredibly thorough, thoughtful, and supportive editor. She worked with me on a Query Kit 1 - redesign of my query letter, synopsis and first ten pages of my manuscript. Her feedback is honest but gently delivered.  She was able to tell me what was wrong with my work in a way that was direct, but also kind (important for us in the trenches) and that made it so I could hear her and improve. And, she introduced me to industry conventions I didn’t even know existed that were likely leading to quick rejections. Her feedback on the first ten pages led to an overhaul of my first three chapters, tightening the pacing and plot - and I got a full request within 24 hours after submitting my new package!

My first stop with any new project I’m ready to query will be Virginia Fox Editorials. 10/10 recommend."

- VT Liu (Adult Fantasy)

"Virginia was wonderful to work with and did an incredible job reviewing my query letter and synopsis. I valued her honesty and encouragement. I gained so much insight and am overwhelmed with the depth of attention and effort she put into my query package. She showed me what I could take out to make my writing more concise and gave me specific recommendations for adding value. She also helped with formatting issues and gave me an idea of what literary agents expect when reading through their queries. I've struggled with fitting the entire essence of my high fantasy novel into a 2-page synopsis, and her help made it possible! She knows this industry exceptionally well and can give specific feedback to writers in many genres. From her editing of my query and synopsis, I would trust her with my entire manuscript!"

- Nixie Bishop (Adult Fantasy)

About Me

I'm a fantasy writer with over three years of editorial experience. Helping others is one of my biggest passions in life, and I'm excited to get to know you and work with you on your project. As an editor, I strive to provide open and effective communication. The publishing industry (and the writing community in general) can be hard to navigate, but we're all in this together!

I'm a lifelong nerd who loves video games, movies, TV shows, and of course: books! I have way too many cats, a small obsession with tea, and more notebooks than I will ever reasonably use.
